'"Miss Witherspoon", a black comedy by Chris Durang, marks the first performance of The Theater Project/What Exit? as a resident company at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts.   Tickets can be purchased at BrownPaperTickets.com (with a discount if purchased in advance), calling 800-838-3006, or at the Theater on the day of performance (depending on availability).  The play was nominated in 2006 for the Pulitzer Prize in drama and was named on of the Ten Best Plays of 2005 by Time Magazine and Newsday.

This reading series will be held under the auspices of the Ethical Cultural Society of Essex County located in Maplewood, NJ.  On Saturday, April 21, 2012, Atticus Theatre Workshop will premiere works by five of its’ writers as well as work from the public. The event will feature readings of original writing, from poetry to prose, as well as a conversation with the writers of the evening. Light refreshments will be provided iin a salon-style atmosphere at The Ethical Culture Society of Essex County, 516 Prospect, St. Maplewood, NJ 07040.  The society’s phone number is (973) 763-1905, and website iswww.essexethical.org. Tuesday After School Guitar/Songwriting/Band Classes at The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts

Ten-week series, April 17 thru June 19, $200 each

Play Guitar! – Tuesdays 4:00 – 4:55 pm Recommended for 5th-8th grade beginners, kick-start your guitar playing and learn your favorite songs!

Start A Band! – Tuesdays 5:00 – 5:55 pm Recommended for 5th-8th graders. The style is up to you!  Bring your instrument and focus on being creative and cooperative in the pursuit of making music!

Write Songs! – Tuesdays 6:30 – 7:25 pm Recommended for teens and adults, explore the songs you love, and get your own songs written!  For all musical levels, learn song structure, and write songs for supportive critique and feedback.

Upcoming Summer Workshops

Guitar Workshop - July 9 – 13, Beginning 3:00 – 3:55pm, Continuing 4:00 – 4:55pm Spend an hour a day for a week strumming basic chords and learning your favorite songs! Five one-hour classes, $100

Start A Band! – July 16 – 20 and July 23 – 27, 3:00 – 5:30pm Students will start a band, rehearse each day, and play an end of week concert!  Five 2½ - hour sessions, $250

Instructor John Brophy has taught at New York City Guitar School and currently teaches guitar at the Adult School, the YMCA After School Program, Gallery 1978, and offers private lessons.
