Two Towns Sing-ins
Date: November 1st, 2011
Time: 7:00pm
Information: For its 6th annual Two Towns Sing-in, the South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is looking for residents from both towns who love to sing and like the idea of expanding their exposure to different music — and to different groups of people.
Four workshops will be conducted on Tuesday evenings at 7 PM on Oct. 25, Nov. 1, Nov. 8 and Nov.15 at The Burgdorff Cultural Center, 10 Durand Rd., Maplewood. Participants should be 18 or older and there is no requirement to read music.
The list of guest conductors includes Ahmondylla Best of Maplewood - a seasoned teacher, composer, singer, performer and instrumentalist who plays the flute and several African percussion and woodwind instruments; South Orange resident Peri Smilow - an entertainer, recording artist, educational consultant and composer; Maplewood resident Richard C. Alston - a Juilliard graduate and accomplished concert pianist who also serves as coordinator of the Performing Arts Department at Essex County College; Cantor Perry Fine - cantor at Congregation Beth El in South Orange and co-founder of Voices in Harmony who lives in South Orange; Tina Marshall - recording artist, songwriter and minister of music for First Baptist Church of South Orange; and Vicki Carter - pianist, seasoned musical director and conductor for numerous Broadway, Off Broadway, Paper Mill Theatre and Broadway Center Stage company productions.
Sign up before October 20th by visiting www.twotowns.org and completing a contact form that includes name, e-mail address, street address, telephone number and voice part or call the Coalition office at 973.761.6116, extension 6 and leaving that information.
This program is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and administered by the Essex County Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs and from the Fraentzel Foundation.
